For teachers: host a music game in three steps
You need a screen the class can see, sound, and any browser device for each pupil or pair. Setting up takes a couple of minutes and you never create an account for a pupil.
Free to try. The teacher who starts the game logs in with an email code, no password. Pupils need no account: they join with a code or QR in their browser.
You host from the board: pick a deck, pick a game and a room opens with a code and a QR. Pupils join from their own screens and choose a nickname. You stay in control of the pace, because the game moves on when the board moves on.
You also decide what the class hears. Choose a public deck, or turn a playlist you have checked into your own deck. If a song does not suit the group, skip it before the next round.
Teacher quick start
- 1
Open a room on the big screen
Go to the host page on your smartboard, projector or teacher laptop, pick a deck and a game, and a room code and QR code appear.
- 2
Pupils join in their browser
Each pupil, or each pair, opens the page on a laptop, Chromebook, tablet or phone and types the code or scans the QR. They choose a nickname. Nothing to install.
- 3
Play from the board
The song plays through the classroom speakers, pupils answer on their own screens, and the board shows the reveal and the scores.
The timeline in one look
A timeline is a row of songs in release order. Pupils hear a new song, never its year, and decide where it fits. Every round is a small lesson in how music changed over the decades.
Which devices work
Any device with a browser
School laptops, Chromebooks, tablets and phones all work. Nothing is installed and nothing needs the school to approve software.
One per pupil or one per pair
Share a device between two pupils when the laptop cart is short or not everyone has a phone. Pairs also talk more about the answer.
Bring your own device
If your school allows pupils to use their own phones, they can join with the QR code. If it does not, use the school devices.
Tips for the classroom
Test the sound first
The music plays from the host screen, so check the speakers before pupils come in.
Put pupils in pairs
One device per pair halves the number of screens and starts better conversations.
Agree on nickname rules
Tell the class to use a nickname that is kind and does not show their full name.
What is stored about pupils
Nicknames only
To join, a pupil types a code and a nickname. The room asks for nothing else: no real name, no email address, no account.
Rooms do not last
A room is deleted a short while after the game ends, together with the nicknames in it. Hitify does not keep pupil names in its database.
The teacher logs in
Only the teacher who starts the game logs in, with an email code. Read the privacy policy for the full details and check it against your school rules.
Prefer real cards?
Make your own card game: paste a playlist, print the PDF at home or order the printed cards.
Frequently asked questions
How long does it take to set up?
A few minutes. Open the host page, pick a deck and a game, and show the code on the board. Pupils join as soon as they see it.
Can I remove a pupil from the room?
Yes. The host can remove a player from the lobby, for example when a nickname is not appropriate, and the pupil can join again with a better one.
Can I use my own songs?
Yes. Turn a playlist into your own deck. The first hundred cards of a deck are free.
What does it cost?
Popular public decks are free to play. If you turn your own playlist into a deck, the first hundred cards of that deck are free. Pupils never pay or sign up.
Do pupils need an account?
No. Pupils join with a room code or QR code and pick a nickname. Only the teacher who starts the game logs in, with an email code and no password.
Ready for the first song?
Open a room on the board, let the class join and start the first round within a few minutes.
