Music game for your event

A music quiz night for your bar or cafe

Give your quiet Tuesday a reason to exist. A music game on the bar TV where guests answer on their phones and the leaderboard decides who drinks first.

Free to try. Whoever starts the game logs in with an email code, no password. Players who join a party room need no account and no app.

A classic pub quiz needs a quizmaster, paper and a stack of questions. Here the big screen does the hosting: the song plays through the bar speakers, guests lock in a year on their phones and the closest guess scores the most. A speed bonus of up to 200 points rewards quick answers, so tables that know their music finish on top.

The format suits a bar because it needs no preparation and no rules explained. Groups of friends form teams on one phone, the barkeeper starts the next round when the glasses are full, and a game of 10 to 20 rounds fills a slot of 20 to 40 minutes. Run it as a music round between the normal quiz rounds, or as a whole evening in short blocks.

Best way to play it Party room: Year Rush. Party room: Year Rush fits a bar: everybody guesses at the same time, the timer keeps rounds short and a loud room is part of the fun.

How a game works

  1. 1

    Pick a deck

Choose a popular public deck, or turn your own playlist into a deck.

  2. 2

    Choose how to play

Pass one phone around the table, or open a party room where everyone plays on their own phone.

  3. 3

    Listen and guess

A 30 second preview plays and nobody sees the year. Place the song on a timeline or lock in a year.

  4. 4

    Reveal and score

Title, artist and year come out, the timeline grows or the points go up, and the next song starts.

The timeline in one look

A timeline is a row of songs in release order. You hear a new song, never its year, and decide where it fits between the songs already on the row. Get it right and the row grows.

How to run it

Connect the TV and the speakers

Open hitify.app/host in the browser of a laptop or a smart TV and route its audio to the bar sound system.

Put the QR code on screen

Guests scan it or type the 4 letter code, pick a name and play. Year Rush has no player limit, so tables can share one phone as a team or everyone can play on their own.

Reward the podium

Offer a round of drinks or a voucher for the top three after the last round.

Tips for a better game

Use the 15 second timer

Short rounds keep the noise up. Use 30 seconds when the bar is busy and people are hard to reach.

Run a weekly night

A regular slot builds a crowd. Change the deck each week, for example a decade or a genre.

Keep a human host

The screen runs the game, but someone with a microphone adds the banter that fills a room.

Why it works at a party

No cards needed

Everything happens on screen, so there is nothing to print, shuffle or lose under the sofa.

Works in the browser

No app to install, not even for a party room. Open the page and play.

Three ways to play

One phone for a small group, or a party room with a big screen for a bigger crowd.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a licence to play music in my bar?

Hitify only plays 30 second previews of songs. Check with your local rights organisation about the rules for playing music in a business, since they differ per country.

How many tables can play?

Year Rush has no player limit, so every table, or every guest, can join. One phone per table keeps the leaderboard short.

What does it cost to play?

Popular public decks are free to play. If you turn your own playlist into a deck, the first 100 cards of that deck are free.

Do players need an account or an app?

No app is needed. Whoever starts the game logs in with an email code, no password. Players who join a party room scan a QR code or type the 4 letter room code, then pick a name.

Ready for the first song?

Pick a deck, choose how you want to play and have the first round running within a minute.
