The music game for your office party
Colleagues who never talk outside meetings end up arguing about a chorus. Put the board on the meeting room screen, let everyone join on their phone and have a round going within five minutes.
Free to try. Whoever starts the game logs in with an email code, no password. Players who join a party room need no account and no app.
At a company party the hard part is not the drinks, it is the first ten minutes when people stand in the groups they already know. A shared game gives them a reason to talk to the person from another floor. The questions are about songs, not about work, so the intern and the director start on equal footing.
A guess-the-year round also gives you natural breaks. A round lasts about a minute, so people can join, grab a drink and leave without anyone stopping the game. The host controls the pace from the big screen, and the leaderboard gives the room a small, friendly rivalry.
Best way to play it Party room: Year Rush. Party room: Year Rush suits a company event best: everyone answers at the same time, so nobody waits for a turn and nobody is on the spot.
How a game works
- 1
Pick a deck
Choose a popular public deck, or turn your own playlist into a deck.
- 2
Choose how to play
Pass one phone around the table, or open a party room where everyone plays on their own phone.
- 3
Listen and guess
A 30 second preview plays and nobody sees the year. Place the song on a timeline or lock in a year.
- 4
Reveal and score
Title, artist and year come out, the timeline grows or the points go up, and the next song starts.
The timeline in one look
A timeline is a row of songs in release order. You hear a new song, never its year, and decide where it fits between the songs already on the row. Get it right and the row grows.
How to run it
Use the screen you already have
Open hitify.app/host in the browser of the meeting room TV or a laptop on a projector. Pick a deck and the number of rounds.
Let people join as they arrive
Keep the QR code and the 4 letter code on screen. Guests pick a name and need no account.
Choose a deck for the generation mix
A deck of hits from several decades suits a team with ages from 22 to 62. Turn a playlist into a deck for a company theme.
Tips for a better game
Pick 15 or 20 rounds
That is roughly 20 to 30 minutes, long enough to feel like an activity and short enough to leave time for the buffet.
Name the prize beforehand
The leaderboard ends in a podium. A small prize for the top three costs little and makes the last rounds louder.
Mix up the teams
With a big group, let colleagues from the same department share a phone as one team. A leaderboard of teams stays easy to read on the big screen.
Why it works at a party
No cards needed
Everything happens on screen, so there is nothing to print, shuffle or lose under the sofa.
Works in the browser
No app to install, not even for a party room. Open the page and play.
Three ways to play
One phone for a small group, or a party room with a big screen for a bigger crowd.
Frequently asked questions
We are 40 colleagues. Does that work?
Year Rush has no player limit, so all 40 can join on their own phones. A leaderboard of 40 names is long, so teams of three or four sharing a phone keep it readable.
Can we use our own playlist?
Yes, you can turn a playlist into your own deck. The first 100 cards of a deck you make are free.
What does it cost to play?
Popular public decks are free to play. If you turn your own playlist into a deck, the first 100 cards of that deck are free.
Do players need an account or an app?
No app is needed. Whoever starts the game logs in with an email code, no password. Players who join a party room scan a QR code or type the 4 letter room code, then pick a name.
Ready for the first song?
Pick a deck, choose how you want to play and have the first round running within a minute.
