A music quiz event for your subreddit or forum
Threads and boards are slow places, which is why a live event stands out. Pick a time, post the thread and play a round with whoever shows up.
Free to try. Whoever starts the game logs in with an email code, no password. Players who join a party room need no account and no app.
A forum cannot run the game itself, so the event needs a live spot: a stream, a voice channel or a video call that shows the host screen. The thread does the organising. You post the date and time, say where the live part happens and put the join link in the thread as soon as the room is open.
Members can answer from a phone while the discussion carries on in the thread. After the game, a results post with the top names and a favourite song turns one evening into a topic that stays alive for days. Moderators should decide beforehand whether names have to match usernames.
How to set it up here
- 1
Announce the event
Post a thread with the time, the live place and the rules, for example that names should match forum usernames.
- 2
Open the room at the start
Go to hitify.app/host, sign in with an email code, pick a deck and a mode and create the room.
- 3
Post the join link
Edit the thread or add a comment with hitify.app/j/ plus the 4 letter code, and pin it if your community allows.
- 4
Share the results
When the podium appears, take a screenshot and post the top names in the thread.
The timeline in one look
A timeline is a row of songs in release order. You hear a new song, never its year, and decide where it fits between the songs already on the row. Get it right and the row grows.
What you need
A live place
A stream, a voice channel or a call that shows the host screen.
A moderator's OK
Check that your community rules allow events and links.
A thread
To announce the time, collect the link and post the results.
Tips for a better game
Pick a time for your main time zone
State the time in a few zones so members do not miss it.
Agree on name rules
Names are chosen by players and are shown on the big screen, so set expectations before the lobby opens.
Remove troublemakers from the lobby
The host can remove a player with the cross next to the name before the game starts.
What streamers and communities should know
Viewers need nothing but a browser
No account, no download and no sign-up for players. They open a link or scan a QR code, type a name and play from a phone or a laptop.
The host screen is a normal web page
You show it with window capture, display capture or a screen share. There is no plugin, overlay or chat bot, and none is needed.
The app sets no player limit
The whole chat can join one room. Year Rush suits big crowds best, because everyone answers at the same time.
Frequently asked questions
Can the game run inside a forum thread?
No. The host screen is a web page you show in a live place, and members join on their phones. The thread is for organising and for results.
How do I keep inappropriate names off the screen?
Hitify does not filter names. The host can remove a player in the lobby, and you can set rules for names in your event post.
Can I play the songs on my stream? What about music rights?
Hitify plays 30 second previews from music services in the browser tab of the host, so whatever your computer sound sends to your stream goes out with it. Hitify gives you no licence to broadcast music and cannot know what your platform allows. Twitch, YouTube, Kick, Discord, Zoom and others each have their own music rules and may mute, flag or limit streams and recordings. Check the rules of your platform before you go live. This is not legal advice.
Do viewers need an account or an app?
No. Viewers open the join link or scan the QR code in a browser on a phone or laptop, type a name and play. Nothing to install. Only the person who hosts signs in, with an email code and no password.
Ready to run a round for your chat?
Open the host screen, pick a deck and show the room code. You can have the first song playing within a few minutes.
