Music quiz for your audience

A music quiz for your Discord server

Share the host screen in a voice channel, post the join link in a text channel and let members answer on their phones. It turns a quiet voice channel into a game night in a few minutes.

Free to try. Whoever starts the game logs in with an email code, no password. Players who join a party room need no account and no app.

Discord communities already have the two things this game needs: a place where everyone can see one screen, and a place where a link can be pinned. You start a room on your computer, use Go Live or screen share in the voice channel to show the host screen, and members join with the link. Nothing is added to your server and no bot is involved.

Because members play on their own phones, they can keep Discord open on their computer and use the phone as a controller. That also keeps the answers private until the reveal, which is half the fun. Year Rush fits most servers, because everyone answers at once and nobody waits for a turn.

How to set it up here

  1. 1

Start the room on your computer

Open hitify.app/host, sign in with an email code, pick a deck and Party room: Year Rush, then create the room.

  2. 2

    Share the screen in voice

Join a voice channel and share the browser window with Go Live or screen share. Turn on sharing the audio of that window so members hear the songs.

  3. 3

    Post the join link

Put hitify.app/j/ plus the 4 letter code in a text channel or pin it. Members can also scan the QR code from the shared screen.

  4. 4

    Start and play

Wait for the names to appear in the lobby, then start. Answers come from phones, the reveal shows in the shared screen.

The timeline in one look

A timeline is a row of songs in release order. You hear a new song, never its year, and decide where it fits between the songs already on the row. Get it right and the row grows.

What you need

A server and a voice channel

Any channel where you are allowed to share your screen.

Audio in the share

The songs only play on the host computer, so members hear them through your screen share.

A phone per player

Or a second window on a laptop, since the player page is an ordinary web page.

Tips for a better game

Schedule it as an event

A weekly slot gives regulars a reason to show up, and a pinned join link saves you from repeating yourself.

Keep names recognisable

Ask members to use their server nickname so the leaderboard feels like your community. Names are limited to 16 characters.

Use a deck with range

A mixed deck keeps both the older and younger members in the game.

What streamers and communities should know

Viewers need nothing but a browser

No account, no download and no sign-up for players. They open a link or scan a QR code, type a name and play from a phone or a laptop.

The host screen is a normal web page

You show it with window capture, display capture or a screen share. There is no plugin, overlay or chat bot, and none is needed.

The app sets no player limit

The whole chat can join one room. Year Rush suits big crowds best, because everyone answers at the same time.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a Discord bot?

No. Hitify does not connect to Discord. You share your screen in a voice channel and post the join link yourself.

Do members need to leave Discord to play?

They need a browser to open the join link, which can be on their phone while Discord stays open on their computer.

Can I play the songs on my stream? What about music rights?

Hitify plays 30 second previews from music services in the browser tab of the host, so whatever your computer sound sends to your stream goes out with it. Hitify gives you no licence to broadcast music and cannot know what your platform allows. Twitch, YouTube, Kick, Discord, Zoom and others each have their own music rules and may mute, flag or limit streams and recordings. Check the rules of your platform before you go live. This is not legal advice.

Do viewers need an account or an app?

No. Viewers open the join link or scan the QR code in a browser on a phone or laptop, type a name and play. Nothing to install. Only the person who hosts signs in, with an email code and no password.

Ready to run a round for your chat?

Open the host screen, pick a deck and show the room code. You can have the first song playing within a few minutes.
