Questions streamers and communities ask
The short, honest answers to what creators ask before they put a music quiz on their channel, including the things Hitify does not do.
Free to try. Whoever starts the game logs in with an email code, no password. Players who join a party room need no account and no app.
This page is for the practical questions: size, delay, names, sound and cost. Where the answer depends on your platform, it says so rather than guessing, because platform rules change and Hitify does not control them.
If your question is about the setup, start with the how-to-host page. If it is about a particular place such as a Discord server or a video call, there is a page for it too. The questions below cover what is left.
How to set it up here
- 1
Test alone first
Open a room, join it from your phone and listen to a recording of your stream.
- 2
Decide your rules
Name rules, the time limit and who gets the link.
- 3
Check your platform
Read what it says about music in live streams and recordings.
- 4
Start small
Run a short first game, then scale up the next stream.
The timeline in one look
A timeline is a row of songs in release order. You hear a new song, never its year, and decide where it fits between the songs already on the row. Get it right and the row grows.
What you need
Ten minutes
To open a room and try it alone.
Your platform's music rules
They decide what you can broadcast.
A moderator
For a very large chat, someone to watch the lobby is useful.
Tips for a better game
Do not promise the size
Tell your community it is the first run, so a hiccup is a story and not a failure.
Say the rules once
A single pinned message with the link and the name rule saves you repeating it.
Keep the host tab in front
Keep the host page open and awake on the computer that plays the songs.
What streamers and communities should know
Viewers need nothing but a browser
No account, no download and no sign-up for players. They open a link or scan a QR code, type a name and play from a phone or a laptop.
The host screen is a normal web page
You show it with window capture, display capture or a screen share. There is no plugin, overlay or chat bot, and none is needed.
The app sets no player limit
The whole chat can join one room. Year Rush suits big crowds best, because everyone answers at the same time.
Frequently asked questions
How many viewers can join one room?
The app sets no player limit. How a very large room feels also depends on everyone's connection, so run a test round before a big stream.
What about stream delay?
Rounds run on a clock, and viewers hear the song a little after you do. Choose the longest time limit in Year Rush, and expect viewers on a low latency mode to react a little faster.
Who sets the nicknames, and can I moderate them?
Players type their own name, up to 16 characters, and a duplicate gets a number. Hitify does not filter names. In the lobby you can remove a player with the cross next to the name, and you can post name rules in chat.
Where does the music come from?
Each song plays as a 30 second preview from a music service in the browser tab of the host. Songs without a preview are skipped. Hitify does not play full songs in a room.
Can I broadcast the songs?
Hitify gives no licence to broadcast music. Whatever your computer sound sends to the stream goes out, and each platform has its own rules and may mute or flag music. Check them before you go live. This is not legal advice.
Does Hitify connect to my chat or to OBS?
No. There is no plugin, overlay or chat bot. You show the host screen with window or display capture, and you paste the join link into chat yourself.
Do viewers need an account?
No. They open the link or scan the QR code, choose a name and play. Only the host signs in, with an email code and no password.
What does it cost?
Free to try, and popular public decks are free to play. The first 100 cards of a deck made from your own playlist are free.
What happens to the room afterwards?
The room closes after the game and nothing about players or scores is stored. To play again, open a new room.
Ready to run a round for your chat?
Open the host screen, pick a deck and show the room code. You can have the first song playing within a few minutes.
