A music game for Zoom, Teams and Meet calls
Share your screen on the call, let everyone join on their phone and guess the year of each song together. It works for remote birthdays, family calls and team sessions.
Free to try. Whoever starts the game logs in with an email code, no password. Players who join a party room need no account and no app.
A video call is the easiest place to run this game, because everyone is already looking at the shared screen. You open the host screen, share the window with computer sound turned on, and send the join link in the call chat. People pick a name on their phone and the game starts.
The phone-as-controller setup solves a problem that quiz games have on calls: you do not have to unmute to answer, and nobody can hear a neighbour shout the year. The guesses are locked in privately and revealed together, so the call can stay lively without everyone talking at once.
How to set it up here
- 1
Open the host screen
Go to hitify.app/host in a browser, sign in with an email code, pick a deck and a mode, then create the room.
- 2
Share the window and the sound
Share the browser window in Zoom, Teams or Meet and enable the option to share computer sound, otherwise nobody will hear the songs.
- 3
Paste the link in the call chat
Send hitify.app/j/ plus the 4 letter code. Everyone opens it on a phone or a second device.
- 4
Start and reveal together
Start the game when the names are in. Answers stay private until the reveal, which you read out for the call.
The timeline in one look
A timeline is a row of songs in release order. You hear a new song, never its year, and decide where it fits between the songs already on the row. Get it right and the row grows.
What you need
Screen sharing with sound
Check that your call tool lets you share computer audio and that the quality is good enough for music.
A second device per player
A phone is best, so the call stays open on the computer.
An agreed time limit
Call audio can lag. Pick the longest time limit.
Tips for a better game
Test the sound with one person
Ask a colleague whether they hear the song clearly before the whole call joins.
Use Year Rush for bigger calls
Everyone answers at once, so no one waits through a long list of turns.
Keep a deck ready for a mixed group
A deck with songs from several decades keeps a team of different ages in the game.
What streamers and communities should know
Viewers need nothing but a browser
No account, no download and no sign-up for players. They open a link or scan a QR code, type a name and play from a phone or a laptop.
The host screen is a normal web page
You show it with window capture, display capture or a screen share. There is no plugin, overlay or chat bot, and none is needed.
The app sets no player limit
The whole chat can join one room. Year Rush suits big crowds best, because everyone answers at the same time.
Frequently asked questions
Do participants have to unmute to play?
No. They answer on their phone, so microphones can stay off. You can still talk about the reveal in the call if you like.
Does it work with call tools I did not mention?
If your tool can share a browser window with computer sound and has a chat for the link, it should. Test it once before the real session.
Can I play the songs on my stream? What about music rights?
Hitify plays 30 second previews from music services in the browser tab of the host, so whatever your computer sound sends to your stream goes out with it. Hitify gives you no licence to broadcast music and cannot know what your platform allows. Twitch, YouTube, Kick, Discord, Zoom and others each have their own music rules and may mute, flag or limit streams and recordings. Check the rules of your platform before you go live. This is not legal advice.
Do viewers need an account or an app?
No. Viewers open the join link or scan the QR code in a browser on a phone or laptop, type a name and play. Nothing to install. Only the person who hosts signs in, with an email code and no password.
Ready to run a round for your chat?
Open the host screen, pick a deck and show the room code. You can have the first song playing within a few minutes.
