How to host a music quiz on your stream
Open the host screen, show it on stream and let your chat join from their phones. This page covers the setup in order, including the parts that need a little care: sound, delay and what viewers see.
Free to try. Whoever starts the game logs in with an email code, no password. Players who join a party room need no account and no app.
The host screen lives at hitify.app/host. You sign in with an email code, pick a deck, choose Party room: Year Rush or Party room: Timeline and create the room. The lobby then shows a large QR code, the 4 letter room code and the list of players who have joined, with a small cross next to each name if you want to remove someone.
For the stream itself you treat the host screen like any other window. Use window capture or display capture in OBS, or share the tab or window in your streaming tool. The songs play in that browser tab, and viewers answer on their own devices, so what your audience sees is the board, the countdown and the reveal. There is no special capture mode yet, so you crop or frame the window the way you like.
How to set it up here
- 1
Open hitify.app/host
Use the browser on the computer you stream from. Sign in with an email code, pick a deck and the game mode, then create the room.
- 2
Add the window to your scene
In OBS, add a window capture or display capture of the browser. Check that the QR code and room code are readable at your stream resolution.
- 3
Share the join link in chat
The join address is hitify.app/j/ followed by the 4 letter code. Paste it in chat or pin it, and keep the QR code on screen next to it.
- 4
Start when the lobby is full
Watch the names appear, remove anyone you do not want with the cross, then start. Songs play in the host tab and viewers answer on their phones.
The timeline in one look
A timeline is a row of songs in release order. You hear a new song, never its year, and decide where it fits between the songs already on the row. Get it right and the row grows.
What you need
A computer with a browser
The one you stream from, or a second one whose screen you capture.
Sound that reaches your stream
The songs are heard through the host tab. Make sure its sound is part of what your stream sends, and test it first.
A way to share the link
Chat, a pinned message or a panel. The QR code on screen works for viewers who watch on a TV and play on a phone.
Tips for a better game
Test the sound before going live
Run a room alone and listen to a recording of your own stream. If the song is not on the recording, fix your audio capture first.
Allow for stream delay
Viewers hear the song a few seconds after you do, and rounds run on a clock. Pick the longest time limit in Year Rush to keep it fair.
Keep the lobby on screen
Leave the QR code and room code visible while people join, and say the link out loud once.
What streamers and communities should know
Viewers need nothing but a browser
No account, no download and no sign-up for players. They open a link or scan a QR code, type a name and play from a phone or a laptop.
The host screen is a normal web page
You show it with window capture, display capture or a screen share. There is no plugin, overlay or chat bot, and none is needed.
The app sets no player limit
The whole chat can join one room. Year Rush suits big crowds best, because everyone answers at the same time.
Frequently asked questions
Is there an OBS plugin or an overlay?
No. You capture the host screen like any browser window. Hitify does not read your chat and does not post to it, so you paste the link yourself.
Can a viewer or moderator host for me?
The host is whoever opened the host screen and signed in with an email code. Other people can only join as players. A moderator who runs the host screen on their own computer could stream it for you, but there is no co-host role.
Can I play the songs on my stream? What about music rights?
Hitify plays 30 second previews from music services in the browser tab of the host, so whatever your computer sound sends to your stream goes out with it. Hitify gives you no licence to broadcast music and cannot know what your platform allows. Twitch, YouTube, Kick, Discord, Zoom and others each have their own music rules and may mute, flag or limit streams and recordings. Check the rules of your platform before you go live. This is not legal advice.
Do viewers need an account or an app?
No. Viewers open the join link or scan the QR code in a browser on a phone or laptop, type a name and play. Nothing to install. Only the person who hosts signs in, with an email code and no password.
Ready to run a round for your chat?
Open the host screen, pick a deck and show the room code. You can have the first song playing within a few minutes.
