A music game for the wedding reception
Weddings bring together grandparents, cousins and colleagues, and music is the one subject they all have a view on. Guests join with a QR code and no account.
Free to try. Whoever starts the game logs in with an email code, no password. Players who join a party room need no account and no app.
Check with the venue before you plan: you need a big screen with a browser and speakers, and a connection for every guest phone. Venues do not always offer either, so do not promise the game until you have asked, or bring a laptop and plan for mobile data. The host logs in with an email code, and guests join with the QR code printed on a card or shown on the screen.
Choose a deck that covers the couple's years and the parents' years, so every generation has songs to win with. A game of 10 rounds takes a short slot between courses or before the dance. Because one room holds up to 12 players, give each table a captain with a phone and let the table guess together.
Best way to play it Party room: Year Rush. Party room: Year Rush is the best fit because every guest can guess at once, which a mixed crowd enjoys more than waiting for turns.
How a game works
- 1
Pick a deck
Choose a popular public deck, or turn your own playlist into a deck.
- 2
Choose how to play
Pass one phone around the table, or open a party room where everyone plays on their own phone.
- 3
Listen and guess
A 30 second preview plays and nobody sees the year. Place the song on a timeline or lock in a year.
- 4
Reveal and score
Title, artist and year come out, the timeline grows or the points go up, and the next song starts.
The timeline in one look
A timeline is a row of songs in release order. You hear a new song, never its year, and decide where it fits between the songs already on the row. Get it right and the row grows.
Tips for a better game
Let tables play as teams
One phone per table, one captain. Everybody at the table contributes guesses without needing a phone.
Pick decades across generations
Include the years the couple grew up in and a decade the grandparents will recognise.
Put a friend in charge
A friend or the DJ opens the room on the venue screen and keeps the pace, so the couple can enjoy their own wedding.
Why it works at a party
No cards needed
Everything happens on screen, so there is nothing to print, shuffle or lose under the sofa.
Works in the browser
No app to install, not even for a party room. Open the page and play.
Three ways to play
One phone for a small group, or a party room with a big screen for a bigger crowd.

No. They scan the QR code or type the 4 letter code in the browser of their phone and pick a name, no app and no account.
