A music quiz online with friends: host a room and play from anywhere

One friend opens a room, shares the screen, and everyone else joins with a 4 letter code on their phone. Friends in different cities can play together.

Free to try. Whoever starts the game logs in with an email code, no password. Players who join a party room need no account and no app.

A party room runs over the internet, so players do not have to be on the same network or in the same house. What they do need is to see and hear the host screen, because that is where the songs play and the board is shown.

The easiest way is a video call. The host shares the screen, with sound if the call tool supports it, and everyone joins the room from the phone they hold in their hands.

How a remote game works

The host does the setup and the guests only need a link or a code.

Host opens a room

On a laptop, the host opens hitify.app/host, signs in with an email code and picks a deck and mode.

Share the screen

Start a video call and share the browser tab or screen with sound so everyone hears the songs.

Send the code

Paste the 4 letter code, or the join link with that code, in the chat. Guests pick a name and are in.

Which mode works best online

Year Rush is the natural fit: everybody guesses at the same moment, so nobody waits, and a group of any size stays busy. Timeline for everyone at once works the same way with a shared timeline. Classic Timeline works well with up to 8 friends who like to take turns and steal cards.

Sound travels through the call, so a short delay between the song and the phones can happen. Give people a second before the timer feels unfair, or pick the longer time limit.

What everyone needs

The host needs a laptop or tablet with a wide screen and an email address for the login code. Guests need a phone with a browser and a way to hear the call. Nobody has to install anything or make an account.

Step by step

  1. 1

    Open the host page

Go to hitify.app/host on a laptop and sign in with an email code.

  2. 2

Start the call and share the screen

Share the tab with sound, so the songs reach everyone.

  3. 3

    Send the room code

Drop the 4 letter code or join link in the chat.

  4. 4

    Start the game

Guests choose a name on their phone and you press start.

The timeline in one look

A timeline is a row of songs in release order. You hear a new song, never its year, and decide where it fits between the songs already on the row. Get it right and the row grows.

Tips for a better game

Check the sound before inviting

Share a test song so you know the call carries the music clearly.

Choose Year Rush for bigger calls

Everyone plays at once, so a long list of friends does not mean long waits.

Mute while the song plays

Keep microphones off during the fragment, then let the shouting start at the reveal.

Why it works at a party

No cards needed

Everything happens on screen, so there is nothing to print, shuffle or lose under the sofa.

Works in the browser

No app to install, not even for a party room. Open the page and play.

Three ways to play

One phone for a small group, or a party room with a big screen for a bigger crowd.

Frequently asked questions

Can friends in another country join?

Yes. A room is reached through the internet. They need the code and a way to see and hear the host screen.

How many friends can play?

Up to 8 in classic Timeline. Year Rush and Timeline for everyone at once have no player limit.

Does everyone need an account?

No. Only the host signs in, with an email code. Guests just pick a name.

What does it cost to play?

Popular public decks are free to play. If you turn your own playlist into a deck, the first 100 cards of that deck are free.

Do players need an account or an app?

No app is needed. Whoever starts the game logs in with an email code, no password. Players who join a party room scan a QR code or type the 4 letter room code, then pick a name.

Ready for the first song?

Pick a deck, choose how you want to play and have the first round running within a minute.
