Music for the occasion

Road trip music game: guess the year in the car

Hours in the car, one phone, a list of songs. Pass it around and let the passengers fight about the years.

Free to try. Log in with an email code, no password and no app to install.

A road trip is the perfect setting for a game that needs no table and no cards. The passenger seat holds the phone, the driver listens, and everyone calls out where the song belongs on the timeline.

Because the game is turn based, it fits the stop-start rhythm of a long drive: one round at a petrol station, another when someone gets bored. The driver should only listen, though: leave the screen to the passengers.

How it works

  1. 1

    Log in with a code

Enter your email address and type the code we send you. No password, no app.

  2. 2

    Pick a deck

Choose a popular deck, one of your own, or scan the QR code of a deck you have.

  3. 3

    Add the players

Add everyone who plays and choose how many cards are needed to win. One phone is enough.

  4. 4

    Listen and place

Hear a 30 second preview and place the song on your timeline. Right answers grow your timeline, the first to fill it wins.

The timeline in one look

Every player builds a timeline of songs in release order. You never see the year of the new song: you listen, then decide where it fits between the songs you already placed.

Tips for this game

Keep the driver out of the screen

The driver calls out guesses, a passenger holds the phone.

Build a deck from your trip playlist

Paste the playlist you already use and play your own songs.

Charge the phone

Streaming previews and a bright screen drain the battery. Use the car charger.

What you get

One phone, whole group

The phone goes from hand to hand. Nobody needs their own device or an account.

Real music

Songs play as 30 second previews, enough to recognise a chorus and argue about the year.

Free decks to start

Popular public decks are free to play. Want your own songs? Turn any playlist into a deck, the first 100 cards are free.

Frequently asked questions

Does it need mobile data?

Yes. The game loads songs and previews online, so the phone needs a mobile data connection. A few rounds use little data, but check your plan on long trips abroad.

Is it safe to play while driving?

Only passengers should play. Never use the phone while driving.

Do I need to install an app?

No. The game runs in your phone browser. You only log in with a code sent to your email address.

Can we play together on different phones?

Not yet. The game is made for one phone that the group passes around, the way you would pass a stack of cards.
