Music for the occasion

House party music game: pass the phone around

The best party games are loud, quick and a bit competitive. This one needs one phone and a speaker.

Free to try. Log in with an email code, no password and no app to install.

At a party you do not want a rulebook. You want a game that explains itself in twenty seconds: listen, place, laugh. The timeline format does that, and rounds are short enough to jump in and out of.

Connect the phone to a speaker so the whole room hears the previews. The tension of a song starting and everyone leaning in to guess the year is what makes it a party game.

How it works

  1. 1

    Log in with a code

Enter your email address and type the code we send you. No password, no app.

  2. 2

    Pick a deck

Choose a popular deck, one of your own, or scan the QR code of a deck you have.

  3. 3

    Add the players

Add everyone who plays and choose how many cards are needed to win. One phone is enough.

  4. 4

    Listen and place

Hear a 30 second preview and place the song on your timeline. Right answers grow your timeline, the first to fill it wins.

The timeline in one look

Every player builds a timeline of songs in release order. You never see the year of the new song: you listen, then decide where it fits between the songs you already placed.

Tips for this game

Use a speaker

Bluetooth speakers make the previews the soundtrack of the evening.

Play in teams

Add a team as a player to keep a big group involved.

Keep the target low

Five cards finishes a round in time for the next song on the playlist.

What you get

One phone, whole group

The phone goes from hand to hand. Nobody needs their own device or an account.

Real music

Songs play as 30 second previews, enough to recognise a chorus and argue about the year.

Free decks to start

Popular public decks are free to play. Want your own songs? Turn any playlist into a deck, the first 100 cards are free.
