60s music quiz: play the sixties online
From the British Invasion to Motown, the sixties changed pop in ten years. Play it as a timeline game on one phone.

The 1960s are a hard decade to date, and that is the fun of it. A 1963 beat song and a 1969 psychedelic track can share a chorus structure, yet they sit six years apart on your timeline. Players who grew up with these records usually win, and everyone else learns quickly.
Build a deck from a sixties playlist, or pick a popular deck that mixes the decade with the years around it. Because every song plays as a preview, even a quiet ballad is easy to place once you hear the production: mono, tape hiss and a lot of reverb give the era away.
How it works
- 1
Log in with a code
Enter your email address and type the code we send you. No password, no app.
- 2
Pick a deck
Choose a popular deck, one of your own, or scan the QR code of a deck you have.
- 3
Add the players
Add everyone who plays and choose how many cards are needed to win. One phone is enough.
- 4
Listen and place
Hear a 30 second preview and place the song on your timeline. Right answers grow your timeline, the first to fill it wins.
The timeline in one look
Every player builds a timeline of songs in release order. You never see the year of the new song: you listen, then decide where it fits between the songs you already placed.
Tips for this game
Listen for the studio
Early sixties records are thin and mono, late ones are wider and louder. The sound is a clue to the year.
Mix in the seventies
A deck that spans 1960 to 1979 makes placing a song a real puzzle instead of a guessing game.
Give grandparents the phone first
This is the decade where the oldest player has the biggest edge, so let them start and watch the room react.
What you get
One phone, whole group
The phone goes from hand to hand. Nobody needs their own device or an account.
Real music
Songs play as 30 second previews, enough to recognise a chorus and argue about the year.
Free decks to start
Popular public decks are free to play. Want your own songs? Turn any playlist into a deck, the first 100 cards are free.
Frequently asked questions
Are there sixties songs I can play right now?
Log in and look through the popular decks. If none fit, paste a sixties playlist into Hitify and the first 100 cards become a deck for free.
Is the 60s too hard for younger players?
Not with a timeline. You only decide whether a song is older or younger than the ones next to it, which a good ear can do without knowing the artist.
Do I need to install an app?
No. The game runs in your phone browser. You only log in with a code sent to your email address.
Can we play together on different phones?
Not yet. The game is made for one phone that the group passes around, the way you would pass a stack of cards.
