Why a pop deck

Pop as a party game

For any party, any age

Everyone knows a few pop hits. A deck of singalongs works just as well at a birthday as it does at drinks: nobody gets left out.

Guess the year

Players guess the release year and place each card in the right spot on the timeline. A disco-era hit feels nothing like a streaming smash from now.

Mix with the original Hitster

Our cards share the format and QR style of the original Hitster game: add your pop deck to an existing set or play it as a standalone pack.

Your own picks

No fixed list. You decide whether it leans on guilty pleasures, pure number ones, or a mix across the years.

Tips & inspiration

Building a pop deck

A good pop deck grabs the big singalongs from every era. Start in the 60s and 70s with Motown and disco, bring in the synth-pop and dance-pop of the 80s and 90s, add the R&B and boy bands around 2000, then finish with the streaming era. Spreading it wide keeps "guess the year" fun: almost everyone knows the songs, but the exact year is a guess.

Keep it around 50 to 80 cards for a party that flows. Sprinkle in a few one-hit wonders to make people hesitate. Ready to build? Start the cards, or first read how to make your own Hitster cards.

Very easy-to-use app. I especially like that you can submit a correction for the year, and if it's right it gets applied straight away. The different ways to vary the printout are great too. Highly recommended!

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How many pop songs should I pick?

For a party game, 50 to 80 cards works best. Want a big timeline spanning six decades of pop? You can make up to 1000 cards.

How does "guess the year" work?

Players scan the QR code, listen to the pop hit and guess the release year. The card is placed in the right spot on the timeline. Exactly like in the original Hitster.

Does it work with the original Hitster?

Yes. Our cards share the same format and QR codes that play directly, so you can mix your pop deck with an existing Hitster set or play it as a standalone pack.

Are the years of the pop hits accurate?

Yes. We verify every release year via MusicBrainz and ISRC, so your timeline is always right. No mistakes like hand-made lists.
