Hangtime Music Festival 2026: roots music in the Gold Country
From Friday October 16 to Sunday October 18, 2026 the El Dorado County Fairgrounds in Placerville, California fill up with banjos, fiddles and jam bands. Hangtime is the new name of the old Hangtown Music Festival, which ran at the same fairgrounds for eleven years until 2022. Producer Ryan Kronenberg brought it back with a simple idea: one outdoor stage, one indoor stage and time spent with friends listening to live music. Saturday is the full day, Friday and Sunday are lighter.
The headliners are Leftover Salmon, The Devil Makes Three and Elephant Revival, backed by Sam Grisman Project, Hot Buttered Rum, Dead Winter Carpenters, Poor Man's Whiskey with their bluegrass take on Pink Floyd (Dark Side Of The Moonshine) and a tribute to The Mother Hips.
What is Hitster?
Hitster is the party game where every card hides a song behind a QR code. You scan it, listen, and place the card on your timeline by release year. Get the order right and the card is yours. The first player with ten cards wins.
A festival like Hangtime is a fun twist on that. Folk, bluegrass and jam music sounds timeless on purpose, so the year is surprisingly hard to guess. A song that feels like 1930 can turn out to be from 2002.
Why Hangtime Music Festival makes a great Hitster pack
The lineup mixes old and new on every stage. A Johnny Cash classic sits next to a punk-tinged string band, and a Grateful Dead jam sits next to a Pink Floyd album played on banjo. That is exactly what makes a timeline game exciting: everyone has an opinion and half of them are wrong.
It is also a pack that works on a small scale. Roots music suits a campfire, a living room or a Saturday night with friends who cannot get a festival ticket.

11 songs for your Hangtime Music Festival Hitster pack
Here is a starting list of songs that fit the Hangtime sound, from the outlaw country and Americana roots to the string band revival. These are our picks inspired by the lineup, not a set list. Every year is the original release of that recording:
Pink Floyd's "Time" is there as a nod to Dark Side Of The Moonshine, and "Old Number Seven" represents The Devil Makes Three. Add a few Leftover Salmon and Elephant Revival tracks and you have a full deck.
How to build the pack with Hitify
With Hitify you turn a list like this into a real Hitster pack in minutes. Paste a Spotify playlist or search the songs one by one, and Hitify checks the original release year of each track. That matters for roots music, because streaming services often show the year of a reissue or a live album instead of the year the song first came out.
When your list is ready, download the cards as a printable PDF with QR codes, or order a printed deck delivered to your door. Scan the codes with your phone and play.
